Protect Yourself from Scams: Know the Signs

Summerhill works with governments and utilities to deliver energy efficiency programs across Canada. This includes answering homeowners’ questions about these programs and assisting them with their applications.

Please be aware that scammers may pretend to represent Summerhill or our program partners. These individuals may claim you need an inspection, offer rebates, or request personal information. Summerhill will never show up unannounced, make unsolicited phone calls, or demand immediate action and/or payment.

When assisting you, Summerhill will:

  • Only contact you through the official channels. Please refer to the official program website or webpage for the official email or phone number. We do not use any phone numbers or emails that are unlisted.

  • Provide clear program details and documentation.

  • Never ask for financial information, demand immediate payment or threaten penalties.

Scammers use several tactics to take advantage of homeowners, including:

  • Creating a sense of urgency—such as threatening service disconnection or insisting you act immediately.

  • Requesting payment via gift cards, e-transfer, or cryptocurrency.

  • Offering rebates or incentives that sound too good to be true but require upfront fees or payments.

If you suspect a scam:

  • Do not share personal or financial information.

  • End the conversation immediately.

  • Report the incident to your local authorities.

We may ask questions to confirm your identity or eligibility for a program. If you are unsure whether an individual is calling from Summerhill, end the call and contact the phone number listed on the official program webpage.
